$1.5 million grant coming to help BRAVE area
BATON ROUGE - Authorities in Baton Rouge received more than a million dollars in federal grant money to help fight crime with the BRAVE program.
About $200,000 of the $1.49 million grant will go to the Healing Place Church Dreamcenter. It's located in the 70805 zip code, which is the focus area of the BRAVE program.
Hope Ministries Church and Capital Area Human Services will also receive a portion of the grant. Hebert "Tweety" Anny says they will provide job placement, drug counseling and other community outreach services
"Social service providers are key," Anny said. "And what I mean by that is we're gonna call on the offenders who are committing these crimes. And we will offer them services. And an assessment will happen to find out why are they committing these violent crimes."
LSU will receive a bulk of the money for research into violence. The money will be given out over a three-year period.
