BATON ROUGE - Dr. Z discussed tips on treating and preventing skin redness associated with rosacea.

She said rosacea can cause both severe or mild redness and irritation, and that certain perfumes or foods can trigger it or make it worse.

Dr. Z said people are usually in their thirties when they start to notice the effects of rosacea. They might mistake it for acne and use the wrong products to treat it; she said astringents can actually make the problem worse.

A treatment she recommended is called IPL, or intense pulse light. It's a laser which can help bring even severe forms of rosacea under control.

BATON ROUGE - Dr. Z continued her series on skin cancer with more tips about how to spot melanoma.

One of her clients, Kevin Smith, talked about a melanoma which developed on his scalp, hidden underneath his hair. His wife spotted it, and saved his life.

BATON ROUGE - Dr. Z and organizers talked about skin cancer awareness and the upcoming Lauren Savoy Olinde Foundation Hat Run.

Dr. Z said melanoma is the deadliest form of skin cancer, and one person every hour dies from it. It also hits people between the ages of 15 and 29 especially hard.

Lauren Olinde died in 2012 from skin cancer. A mole on her head turned out to be a melanoma, and later spread throughout her body.

Before she died, she and her friends discussed creating a non-profit foundation to raise skin cancer awareness through a run/walk event. The "Hat Run" is meant to remind people to wear hats and long clothing to reduce sun damage to their skin.

The Hat Run is scheduled for Saturday, April 6 at Pennington Biomedical Research Center. It costs $20 to participate in the race, and free skin care screenings are available for everyone who wants to come out.

BATON ROUGE - Dr. Z continues her series on acne by explaining the process of facial infusion treatment.

The procedure uses micro-needles to infuse skin with chemicals to treat acne and improve complexion. Dr. Z compared the feeling of the micro-needling to getting licked by a cat's tongue.

The procedure costs around $200.

She discussed Omnilux blue light therapy, which uses non-UV light to eliminate bacteria which causes skin blemishes.

BATON ROUGE - Dr. Z continued her skin care discussion about looking beyond facial care, focusing today on the hands.

Dr. Z said that hands get a lot of exposure, especially while driving, and could use some special care to keep them looking young and healthy.

One simple tip is keeping sunscreen in the car and applying small amounts to your hands before traveling somewhere. On the other end of the cost spectrum are "filler" injections which help reduce visible veins and other signs of aging, and can run between $200 and $2,000.

BATON ROUGE - Today on News 2 at 4, dermatologist Dr. Z talks about an area of our skin many people overlook: the neck.

She discussed a new ultrasound treatment called Ulthera that's a non-surgical way to slow the aging process along the neck, which can lead to excess or sagging skin.

It's doable for people of many ages, including those in their twenties who may be genetically pre-disposed toward excess neck skin.

BATON ROUGE - Dr. Z was continuing her A-B-C's of skin care segment today on News 2 at 4.

This week, she talked about "tretinoins", which are a type of Vitamin A cream you can apply to the face, usually at night, to decrease fine lines and wrinkles, and minimize pores in order to reduce acne.

Dr. Z called this her favorite form of skin care. Tretinoins are available both over-the-counter and with a prescription.
