BATON ROUGE, La. – Sophomore Tari Eason claimed his fourth double-double of the season, scoring a season-high 24 points and grabbing 12 rebounds in No. 21 LSU’s 79-67 win over the No. 18 Tennessee Vols Saturday.

The Tigers were led by Xavier Pinson in the assist column with seven and Eric Gaines created four takeaways, which led the team in its winning effort.

"Great, great win. Really proud of our guys. Tremendous effort all night. I thought we got off to a great start. We got off to a better start to start the second half. That was a problem for us against Kentucky and Auburn. I thought we did a much better job getting off to a quick start with the second half, and we certainly closed it strong," said head coach Will Wade.

Pinson suffered a knee injury that forced him to leave the game in the second half. Will Wade said post game that all reports are positive but further scans and tests in the upcoming week will determine the severity of the injury.

LSU had one of their best offensive performances of the year, shooting 47 percent from the field and hitting 8 threes on 18 attempts.

I should’ve mentioned that. I thought our offense outside of some of the sloppy turnovers, I thought we took great threes, I thought we took great shots. We did a good job getting to the rim. Our offense looked as good as it has looked in a long time, and we’re capable of that. To put 79 (points) on the second-best defensive team in the country, we’re capable of that. We took really good threes outside of one or two of them. We did a good job attacking the rim. We need to continue to work on finishing at the rim and finish a little bit better. We need to finish a little bit better at the rim but overall, I was very pleased with our offense." Wade said.

The Vols were led by guard Kenndy Chandler, who finished the night with 19 points, four rebounds, and three assists.

The Tigers improve to 14-1, and 2-1 in SEC play. LSU will next travel on the road to face Florida on Wednesday.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- LSU knocked of No. 8-ranked Arkansas, 78-71, on Saturday afternoon to earn its first SEC Tournament final berth since 1993.

Third-seeded LSU (18-8) will face top-seeded Alabama in the championship game on Sunday at noon CT. The game will be televised by ESPN and broadcast live on the LSU Sports Radio Network starting at 11:30 a.m.

In an exciting first 20 minutes, the Tigers used a 14-1 run to overcame an 8-point deficit and lead 38-32 with 5:35 remaining. Thomas hit a pair of three pointers, Days added another, and Smart's dunk after Thomas' steal capped the rally, as LSU made seven three pointers in the opening stanza.

Neither team led by more than three points in the first 10 minutes of the second half, though Arkansas was held without a field goal for more than seven minutes.

Meanwhile, Watford made a step-back three pointer from the top of the key and converted a steal into a layup to give LSU a 59-52 advantage with 9:58 to play. Days' three-point play and a layup by Eric Gaines pushed the Tigers' advantage to 12.

The Razorbacks scored the next six points to cut the LSU lead to 64-58 with 6:03 to play.

After Gaines' three pointer and a pair of free throws by Smart put LSU ahead 10 with 2:28 to play, Moody and Smith rolled off nine-straight points for Arkansas to cut LSU's lead to one, 72-71, with 37 seconds to play.

Smart made a jumper to put LSU up by three, and Gaines' steal with 18 seconds left would send Smart to the free throw line to clinch the victory.

BATON ROUGE, La. – Junior right-hander Landon Marceaux fired six scoreless innings Saturday to lead eighth-ranked LSU to a 12-0 win over Oral Roberts in Alex Box Stadium, Skip Bertman Field.

Marceaux received plenty of run support from the LSU lineup, which erupted for a seven-run fifth inning and collected 15 hits on the day.

LSU, which dropped Game 1 of the series to ORU on Friday, improved to 9-2 with Saturday's victory while the Golden Eagles fell to 3-7.

LSU will face Oral Roberts in the Game 3 of the series Sunday at 2 p.m. CT in Alex Box Stadium, Skip Bertman Field. The game will be available to watch on SEC Network+, and it may be heard on affiliates of the LSU Sports Radio Network, including 98.1 FM in Baton Rouge.

"I'm just so proud of our guys today," said LSU coach Paul Mainieri. "We got knocked on our backsides yesterday, we came back today and got a big win. If we can win this series this weekend after the loss yesterday, it will be something to be very proud of. Hopefully, we'll come out tomorrow and get the job done.

Marceaux (2-0) turned in a brilliant outing, scattering six singles through six shutout frames, while recording no walks and seven strikeouts. Marceaux has not allowed an earned run in 17 innings this season.

"The effort of Landon Marceaux today was outstanding, and it shows you once again that pitching is everything," Mainieri said. "He has just been tremendous -- he was tremendous in fall practice, and he was tremendous last year when the season was stopped. He's been terrific in his first three starts; he throw strikes, he mixes his pitches, he's developed a great slider, and I think he's one of the best pitchers in the SEC."

ORU starting pitcher Isaac Coffey (1-1) was charged with the loss, as he surrendered eight runs – five earned – on eight hits in 4.1 innings with two walks and five strikeouts.

LSU grabbed a 1-0 lead in the second inning when second baseman Zach Arnold doubled and scored on an RBI single by third baseman Jordan Thompson.

The score remained 1-0 until the fifth when the Tigers exploded for seven runs to take a commanding 8-0 lead. The outburst was highlighted by  centerfielder Brody Drost's RBI single, a two-run single by designated hitter Cade Beloso, an RBI single by leftfielder Gavin Dugas and shortstop Drew Bianco's two-run single.

LSU added three runs in the sixth on a two-run double by Dugas and an RBI single by Arnold. Leftfielder Mitchell Sanford's RBI single in the eighth inning accounted for the final margin.

LSU freshmen pitchers Ty Floyd and Javen Coleman combined to blank the Golden Eagles over the final three innings, allowing no hits with one walk and six strikeouts.

BATON ROUGE, La. – Junior right-hander Landon Marceaux fired a career-best 10 strikeouts Saturday night to lead No. 11 LSU to a 14-0 win over Nicholls in Alex Box Stadium, Skip Bertman Field.

Earlier Saturday, the Tigers defeated Youngstown State, 5-3, on a two-run, walk-off homer by second baseman Cade Doughty.

LSU improved to 6-1 with the two victories, and the Tigers have won four straight games. Youngstown State dropped to 1-6 and Nicholls fell to 2-3 with Saturday’s losses.

LSU returns to action at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday when the Tigers play host again to Nicholls in Alex Box Stadium, Skip Bertman Field.

“It was a long day today, but a good day,” said LSU coach Paul Mainieri. “We had a very emotional victory in the first game, and you’re always worried about a letdown after a game like that, but we came out like gangbusters in the second game. Landon Marceaux set the tone and pitched outstanding all night, and we hit some homers that gave us an early lead against a pitcher that beat us last year.

“With the prevailing wind, there was more of a hitters’ environment here today, and we took advantage of it. I really like the way the middle of our order is shaping up right now, (rightfielder) Dylan Crews is an intimidating force at the top of the lineup, and our hitters are swinging with a lot of confidence.”

Marceaux (1-0) worked six innings against the Colonels, allowing no runs on two hits with no walks and 10 strikeouts.

Nicholls starter Tyler Theriot (0-1) was charged with the loss, as he surrendered six runs on six hits with three walks and three strikeouts in 3.1 innings.

The shutout was LSU’s first since a 2-0 win over South Alabama on April 3, 2019.

LSU blasted four homers in the game, including two by junior shortstop Drew Bianco. Crews and third baseman Jordan Thompson also homered to pace the Tigers’ 13-hit attack, and centerfielder Brody Drost collected three hits, including a double, one RBI and two runs scored.

DH Cade Beloso added a double and three RBI, and catcher Alex Milazzo produced a two-run double.

LSU entered the bottom of the ninth inning of Saturday’s first game tied 3-3 with Youngstown State. With one out, Crews was hit by a pitch, and after first baseman Tre’ Morgan flied out, Crews moved to third on a failed pick-off attempt by YSU reliever Gary Clift.

Doughty followed with a blast over the left-field fence on a 2-2 count to give the Tigers the victory. It was LSU’s first walk-off win since a 4-3 victory over Auburn in the SEC Tournament on May 23, 2019.

LSU won a game with a walk-off homer for the first time since February 16, 2019, versus Army when Cade Beloso hit a game-winning dinger in the bottom of the ninth.

LSU reliever Alex Brady (1-0) earned the win, as he blanked Youngstown State in the top of the ninth inning, recording two strikeouts. Clift (0-1) absorbed the loss after allowing the Doughty home

BATON ROUGE -- Though LSU overcame a 10-point fourth-quarter deficit, Mississippi State senior quarterback K.J. Costello led the Bulldogs to the game's final 10 points to earn the victory, 44-34, on Saturday at Tiger Stadium.

Trailing 34-24 early in the fourth quarter, LSU's defense forced turnovers on consecutive possessions - an interception by freshman cornerback Elias Ricks and a strip-sack by senior linebacker JaCoby Stevens - to quickly get back in the game. The Tigers responded with a 33-yard touchdown reception by Terrace Marshall Jr. and a 40-yard Cade York field goal to tie the game at 34-34 with 9:37 to play.

However, the Bulldogs regained the lead on the ensuing drive on a 43-yard Brandon Ruiz field goal with 7:27 to play and added a 24-yard touchdown pass from Costello to Osirus Mitchell with 3:39 left.

Starting his first game for LSU, junior quarterback Myles Brennan finished 27-of-45 passing for 345 yards and three touchdowns. He was intercepted twice including the game's final play.

LSU, which had only 3 of its 22 starters from the 2019 national championship team in today's starting lineup, was outgained 632-425.

Costello finished 36-of-60 passing 623 yards and five touchdowns. State attempted only 16 rushing attempts for nine net yards, including five sacks of Costello for minus-38 yards.

Due to COVID-19 capacity limitations, Tiger Stadium's capacity was reduced to 25 percent. The announced attendance for the game was 21,124.

On its second offensive possession, Mississippi State moved 66 yards in 12 plays, with the march culminating in a 35-yard field goal by Brandon Ruiz. The drive was highlighted by pass completions of 22 and 25 yards from quarterback K.J. Costello to wide receiver Osirus Mitchell.

Mississippi State held its 3-0 lead through the end of the first period, marking the first time in 26 quarters that LSU did not score. The last time LSU did not score in a period was in the third quarter at Alabama last season.

The Bulldogs drove into LSU territory early in the second quarter, but the march was stopped when senior safety JaCoby Stevens, making his 20th consecutive start for the Tigers, recovered an errant snap that bounced off of Costello's facemask at the LSU 40-yard line.

LSU scored its first points of the season when linebacker Jabril Cox, a graduate transfer from North Dakota State, picked off a Costello pass and sprinted 14 yards to the end zone. Cade York's PAT gave the Tigers a 7-3 lead with 9:45 left before halftime.

Cox's pick-six was the first by an LSU player since the 2018 season opener, when linebacker Jacob Phillips returned an interception 45 yards for a TD versus Miami (Fla.).

The Bulldogs regained the lead with 7:45 remaining in the second period when Costello connected with wide receiver Tyrell Shavers on a 31-yard scoring pass, capping a six-play, 75-yard drive for MSU.

LSU rebounded quickly, as quarterback Myles Brennan lofted a 2-yard TD pass to freshman tight end Arik Gilbert at the 5:20 mark of the second quarter. The drive, highlighted by a 47-yard connection from Brennan to wide receiver Jaray Jenkins, covered 84 yards in eight plays.

The see-saw battle continued, as Costello hit Mitchell with a 43-yard scoring aerial to give Mississippi State a 17-14 advantage 2:27 before halftime. The touchdown finished a seven-play, 75-yard possession for the Bulldogs.

LSU's 17-14 deficit at halftime marked the first time the Tigers trailed after the first two periods since November 24, 2018, at Texas A&M.

The Tigers tied the game at the 9:33 mark of the third period on their first offensive possession of the second half. York's 26-yard field goal capped a 14-play, 67-yard march that featured a 20-yard Brennan-to-Jenkins pass to the Bulldogs' 17-yard line.

Mississippi State responded by moving 69 yards in nine plays, with the drive culminating in a Ruiz 24-yard field goal. Costello's 34-yard pass to wide receiver Javonta Payton gave the Bulldogs and first-and-goal at the LSU 5 before the Tigers' defense stiffened.

Brennan led a brisk five-play, 75-yard drive, connecting with wide receiver Terrace Marshall Jr. on a 37-yard scoring strike to give the Tigers a 24-20 lead with 5:01 remaining in the third quarter.

However, Mississippi State needed just one play on its next possession to surge ahead again, as Costello hit running back Kylin Hill with a 75-yard touchdown throw to mark the seventh lead change of the contest.

LSU turned the ball over for the first time in the game at the :58 mark of the third quarter, when Brennan was intercepted by cornerback Esaias Furdge, who returned the football 21 yards to the Bulldogs' 44-yard line.

Mississippi State capitalized on the opportunity when Costello found wide receiver Austin Williams on a nine-yard TD strike, capping a five-play, 56-yard drive and giving the Bulldogs a 34-24 lead with 14:14 left in the game.

LSU freshman cornerback Eli Ricks energized the Tiger Stadium crowd by intercepting a Costello pass at the Mississippi State 45, and the Tigers quickly cashed in on the turnover when Brennan fired a 37-yard scoring strike to Marshall Jr. The play narrowed the MSU lead to 34-31 with 11:01 remaining in the contest.

On Mississippi State's next play from scrimmage, Stevens stripped the ball from Costello and recovered the fumble at the Bulldogs' 23. LSU managed just one yard in three plays, and York nailed a 40-yard field goal to tie the game 34-34 with 9:37 left.

The Bulldogs grabbed the lead with 7:27 left when Ruiz hit a 43-yard field goal, completing a seven-play, 50-yard advance that featured a 37-yard pass from Costello to Shavers to the LSU 20.

Mississippi State scored again on its next possession, driving 71 yards in seven plays as Costello fired a 24-yard TD pass to Mitchell to increase the advantage to 44-34.

On Friday, LSU football took a stand for social injustice. The team organized a march that began at Tiger Stadium, weaved around campus and ended at the President's office.

The peaceful protest, organized by senior safety JaCoby Stevens, was met with understanding and support by LSU Interim President Tom Galligan.

"It was good to talk with them. It was good to meet with them and I hope the conversation continues," said Galligan after speaking with the entire team on the doorsteps of the building.

Ed Orgeron was in full support of his team's actions as he stood in support with President Galligan and Athletic Director Scott Woodward.
