Short Term Forecast: Now that everyone will be headed back to work and school after a nice break for the Holidays be sure to take your jacket this morning. We have clear skies with temperatures in the 30s.
Expect a pleasant afternoon as high pressure sits over the Southeast U.S. This will allow us to have mostly sunny skies, but it will remain a little cool. High temperatures will be in the upper 50s.
Clouds will be on the increase tonight from the west as our next storm system starts to develop. It will be mostly cloudy and not as cold with lows in the mid 40s.
Week Ahead: An area of low pressure is forecast to form over Texas on Tuesday and that will spread mostly cloudy skies with scattered showers over Baton Rouge during the day. It will be a little warmer as southerly winds return and high temperatures will be in the mid 60s. Tuesday Night will be mostly cloudy with scattered showers and thunderstorms. Lows will be in the lower 60s.
A warm front will move north of Baton Rouge on Wednesday and that will spread even more rain and storms over the city. Some of the storms could become strong to severe at times. The main threat would be damaging winds, but a few tornadoes can not be ruled out. It will be a very warm and humid day with highs in the mid 70s. Wednesday Night will have mostly cloudy skies with scattered showers. Lows will be in the mid 60s.
The warm and unsettled weather continues on Thursday as the the low and associated cold front move closer to Baton Rouge. This will spread more scattered showers and thunderstorms over us, and some could still be strong to severe. Highs will be in the mid 70s and lows will be a little cooler as they fall to the mid 50s.
The front falls apart over us on Friday and our weather will improve a little. We will become partly cloudy, but we still have a chance for a shower. Highs will be in the lower 70s and lows in the upper 50s.
Weekend Outlook: The weather will still be a little unsettled on Saturday. We will have a mix of sun and clouds with a few showers popping up in the afternoon. High temperatures will be in the mid 70s and lows in the upper 50s.
A stronger cold front is expected to move through Baton Rouge on Sunday and that will bring us another round of showers and thunderstorms. It will be warm and humid ahead of the front with highs in the upper 60s. Sunday Night will start to turn colder with lows in the lower 50s.
