Short Term Forecast: It is another cold and rainy morning across the Capital City. We have mostly cloudy skies with scattered showers popping up on the radar. Temperatures are in the upper 30s to lower 40s.
More of the same wet, chilly and dreary weather is on tap this afternoon. This is all thanks to the stationary front that is sitting along the Louisiana and Mississippi Coasts. Winds are paralleling the front, and that is preventing it from drifting to the east. Disturbances are coming out of the southwest to the northeast in the upper-levels and they are helping to set off the scattered showers over Baton Rouge. Some of the rain could become heavy at times. We will stay chilly with highs in the mid 40s.
The clouds and showers will continue tonight. It will be a cold one with lows in the upper 30s.
Week Ahead: Do not expect much of a change in the weather on Wednesday since the front will still be stuck along the coast. Some of the rain could get heavy at times again. Highs will be in the mid 40s. On Wednesday Night we will have a few showers and it will be cold with lows in the lower to mid 30s.
On Thursday Morning an upper-level low will move across Northern Louisiana and Central Mississippi. Under the low the temperatures will fall below freezing. At the same time the showers will be coming to an end around Baton Rouge. Therefore, it looks like we will miss out on some wintry precipitation. However, areas in South Mississippi may see some sleet mixed in with the rain as it comes to an end. However, if the low would move faster or the rain would move slower the forecast could drastically change. At this time that does not look like it will happen. My forecast will call for some early showers giving way to partly cloudy skies by Thursday Afternoon. It will stay chilly with highs around 50. Thursday Night will be mostly clear and cold with lows in the lower 30s.
Friday will FINALLY see the sunshine return as high pressure builds over the Southeast U.S.!! It will be a dry day and a tad warmer with highs in the mid 50s and lows in the mid 30s on Friday Night.
Weekend Outlook: The area of high pressure will remain over us this weekend and that means we will stay sunny and dry both days! It will become warmer with highs in the lower 60s each day. It is going to stay chilly at night with lows in the mid to upper 30s.
Bundle up, take that umbrella and stay warm today. Have a nice one! -Dave
