Some changes are coming to our weather...

Created: November 13, 2009 5:18 AM

Short Term:  BRRRRR!!!  It is a cold start to this Friday as we have temperatures in the upper 30s to lower 40s across the Baton Rouge area with mostly clear skies.  Be sure to dress warmly as you head out the door!

We will warm up this afternoon, and it is going to still be very pleasant.  An area of high pressure is sitting over us, and that is providing the nice weather.  The skies will be mostly sunny with high temperatures in the lower 70s.

Mostly clear skies will greet us tonight and it will remain chilly.  Lows temperatures will fall down to the upper 40s.

Weekend Forecast:  The area of high pressure will move toward the East Coast, and this will bring the southerly winds back over Louisiana.  These winds will warm us up, and also start pumping in moisture from the Gulf of Mexico.  This will lead to mostly sunny to partly cloudy skies.  Highs will be in the upper 70s on Saturday and Sunday.  Low temperatures will not be a chilly as they only fall to the mid and upper 50s.

Next Week Outlook:  A cold front will move into and through Baton Rouge on Monday and Tuesday.  This will give us mostly cloudy skies with scattered showers and thunderstorms.  The way things look now, according to forecast models, the bulk of the rain will come on Monday.  Since there will be plenty of moisture in place we will see some rain.  Severe weather is not expected at this time, but we could have some heavy rain at times.  It will remain warm on Monday before the front comes through with highs in the mid 70s.  Much cooler weather will return on Tuesday as the front moves through.  Highs will be in the mid 60s with morning showers giving way to partly cloudy skies.  Clear skies are in the forecast for Tuesday night with chilly lows back in the 40s.

Quiet weather will follow the cold front on Wednesday and Thursday.  We will have partly cloudy skies, and it will be cool on Wednesday with highs in the upper 60s. Lows on Wednesday night will be in the upper 40s with mostly clear skies.  Thursday will be a little warmer with highs in the lower 70s.

Another cold front will approach the Southeast U.S. on Friday.  This will help to spark off a few showers with partly cloudy skies.  High temperatures will be in the lower 70s with lows in the mid 50s.

Tropical Update:  All areas of the tropics are quiet, and tropical cyclone formation is not expected through the weekend.
