Showers return today, and much of the week will be unsettled

Created: February 1, 2010 6:13 AM

Short Term:  It is a cloudy and chilly start to this Monday.  Isolated showers are moving closer to Baton Rouge, and will get here later in the morning.  The temperatures are in the upper 30s, so grab your coat and umbrella as you head out the door.

The showers will become more widespread later this morning and into the afternoon with mostly cloudy skies.  The rain is coming from a disturbance that is moving east out of Texas.  There could be a few rumbles of thunder this afternoon as well.  High temperatures will be in the mid 50s.

The showers will end this evening, and then we will be left with mostly cloudy skies.  It will be a chilly night with lows falling down to the upper 30s.

Week Ahead:  Tuesday will be a pretty nice day as an area of high pressure moves to the north of Louisiana.  This will clear out the rain, and make it partly cloudy.  It will also become a little warmer with highs in the lower 60s.  Tuesday night will be partly cloudy and chilly with lows near 40.

The weather starts to become unsettled on Wednesday.  We will start the day with partly cloudy skies, but it will become cloudy by the evening.  An area of low pressure will form off the Texas Coast, and that will send some isolated showers into Baton Rouge.  Highs will be in the upper 50s.  The showers will become more widespread on Wednesday night with lows in the mid 40s.

Scattered to numerous showers and a few thunderstorms will move through Baton Rouge on Thursday.  This is all coming from the area of low pressure that will slowly track across the northern Gulf of Mexico.  Some heavy rain will be possible.  It will be a cool day with high temperatures in the upper 50s.  The rain and storms will continue on Thursday night with lows in the upper 40s.

The showers will continue for the first-half of the day on Friday before they taper off by the evening.  Then we will be left with mostly cloudy skies.  It will still be cool with highs in the mid 50s.  Look for mostly cloudy skies on Friday night, and it will not be bad weather for any night Mardi Gras Parades.  Parade temperatures around 6 PM will be in the lower 50s, and lows on Friday night will fall to the lower 40s.

Weekend Outlook:  The area of low pressure will move to the east, and an area of high pressure will build in behind it.  The rain will end, but it looks like we will still have clouds lingering around all weekend.  There will be some sun, so it will not be totally gloomy.  Both Saturday and Sunday will have partly cloudy skies with high clouds.  It will be a little warmer with highs in the lower 60s, and lows near 40.

Super Bowl Forecast:  For those of you heading to South Florida to cheer on the New Orleans Saints here is a look at the weather for this week.  Today will have plenty of rain, and it could become heavy with highs in the mid 70s.  Lows will be in the upper 60s.  Scattered storms are expected tomorrow with highs in the lower 80s, and lows in the mid 60s.

It will be dry and partly cloudy on Wednesday and Thursday with highs in the mid to upper 70s and lows in the lower to mid 60s.

Isolated showers return on Friday and Saturday as a cold front moves through.  It will remain warm and humid with highs in the upper 70s to around 80.  Lows will be in the mid 60s.

On Gameday, Sunday evening at 5: 25 PM, the early outlook calls for partly cloudy skies.  It will be a warm day with high temperatures in the lower 70s.  The kickoff temperature will be around 70.  Geaux Saints!!!
