Short Term Forecast: We have some partly to mostly cloudy skies on this Wednesday Morning. It is a little chilly with temperatures in the 30s and 40s.
The clouds will continue to thicken during the day and that will make it mostly cloudy. This is due to a developing area of low pressure and a strong cold front over Texas/New Mexico. Temperatures will be held down thanks to the cloud cover as we only climb into the lower 60s. Some areas may not make it out of the 50s today.
More clouds are expected tonight and it will become breezy. Low temperatures will be in the upper 40s.
School Visits: Yesterday I had the pleasure of visiting Central Private School and speaking to the 8th graders. We had a great time, and thank you so much for the hat!!
Today will travel to Family Christian Academy to talk to the 4th and 5th graders. I look forward to seeing you this afternoon!
Week Ahead: A warm front will move up from the Gulf of Mexico on Thursday Morning and this will allow us to become warm and humid. This will cause the atmosphere to become unstable. Scattered showers and thunderstorms will form along this front. Some of them could be strong to severe during the afternoon hours. Then the cold front will move into Baton Rouge during the evening hours. The storms ahead and along the front could be strong to severe as well. SPC has placed all of Louisiana in a Slight Risk for severe weather tomorrow. The threats would be large hail, damaging winds and a few tornadoes. We could also have heavy rain with some flash flooding. High temperatures will be in the lower 70s. The showers and storms will continue into Thursday Night. Lows will be in the lower 60s.
The cold front will actually stall over the area thanks to an area of high pressure blocking it. This will keep scattered showers with a few thunderstorms in the forecast on Friday. Some heavy rain will be possible, and we could pick up 1 to 2 inches. Some flash flooding is possible! Highs will be in the lower 70s. Friday Night will be mostly cloudy with a few showers. Lows will be in the mid 50s.
Weekend Outlook: It looks like the front will start to move again on Saturday. This will lower the chance of rain in Baton Rouge, so we will only have a few showers possible. Otherwise, it will be partly to mostly cloudy with highs in the upper 60s. Saturday Night will be mostly cloudy with lows in the upper 40s.
The weather will go downhill again on Sunday. The tail-end of the cold front will retreat back to the north as a warm front. This will not only make it warmer, but also bring back the scattered showers and storms. Some could be strong to severe. Highs will be in the lower 70s. A cold front will move into Baton Rouge on Sunday Night with more scattered showers and storms. Lows will be in the upper 50s.
Take your jacket today and have a nice one! -Dave
