Pleasant weather expected for Super Bowl Sunday, but unsettled weather next week

Created: February 6, 2010 5:47 PM

Short Term:  The clouds stuck around for much of the day on Saturday, but will be slowly decreasing on Saturday night.  Cold air from Canada will move toward Louisiana tonight, and that is going to be it pretty chilly around here.  Low temperatures will fall to the mid 30s, and some areas may get near 32 just north of Baton Rouge.

A very pleasant day is expected for Super Bowl Sunday!  As we cheer on the Saints, we will have mostly sunny skies as an area of high pressure moves by to the north of Louisiana.  The temperatures will be cool as they climb to the mid 50s.

At the 5:25 PM Central time kickoff of the Super Bowl, we will have mostly clear skies with temperatures in the lower 50s.  It will make great weather for any Super Bowl Parties!  Geaux Saints!

Partly cloudy skies and chilly temperatures are in the forecast for Sunday night.  Lows will down to the upper 30s.

Miami Super Bowl Forecast:  The weather will improve in Miami on Super Bowl Sunday!  The skies will be mostly sunny, and it will be a little cooler.  Highs will be near 70.  Kickoff weather will have mostly clear skies with temperatures in the upper 60s.  Who Dat!

River Stages:  Due to the 2 to 4 inches of rain we received this week, area rivers are running pretty high.  They are expected to crest over the next 2 days if they haven't already.  For the latest river stages for the Amite, Comite, Tickfaw and Tangipahoa River, click on the links below:

Next Week Outlook:  The forecast models are showing some unsettled weather for much of next week, and this begins on Monday.

A cold front will move into Louisiana on Monday.  Ahead of it we will have southerly winds which will warm us up, and make it a little more humid.  By the afternoon, isolated showers will start popping up all around Baton Rouge.  High temperatures will be in the lower 60s.

The rain will become more widespread on Monday night, and it could become heavy at times too.  Lows will be in the mid 40s.

The cold front will move through on Tuesday morning, and that will keep rain in the area until about noon.  Then there will be a gradual decrease in the cloud cover.  It will become much cooler with highs in the mid 50s.  Tuesday night will be mostly clear and much colder with lows in the lower 30s.

Wednesday is shaping up to be the driest day of the week as an area of high pressure skirts by our area.  Expect partly cloudy skies with highs in the lower 50s.

Clouds will start to increase on Thursday as an area of low pressure is forecast to form off the Texas Coast again, and it will head toward the Northern Gulf Coast States.  This will also bring us some rain late in the day.  Highs will be in the lower 50s.  Showers will increase in coverage on Thursday night with lows near 40.

Scattered to numerous showers and a few thunderstorms will move across South Louisiana on Friday as that area of low pressure moves by.  Some of the rain may become heavy at times, but it is too early to make that call.  It will be a cold rain as our highs will be around 50.
