More delightful weather today, but big chnages are coming on Friday

Short Term:  It is a very cold start to this morning!  We have clear skies and the temperatures are in the mid 30s.  Some areas north of Baton Rouge may actually have lows in the lower 30s with a little frost.  Dress warmly as you head out the door!

If you have liked the weather for the last few days, then you will like the weather again today!  An area of high pressure will be just off to the northeast of Louisiana, and this will continue to provide us with mostly sunny skies as some high clouds move in from Texas.  It will become a little warmer as the winds shift from the northwest to the east.  High temperatures will climb into the upper 60s.

Some clouds will start to move in tonight, and that will make it partly cloudy.  It will be a chilly night, but not as cold as this morning with lows in the mid 40s.

Rest of the Week:  More clouds will increase on Thursday as southerly winds return to the state.  This will make it partly to mostly cloudy, and it will become more humid too.  High temperatures will be around 70.

Mostly cloudy skies are expected on Thursday night along with isolated showers ahead of our next weather-maker.  Low temperatures will be in the upper 50s.

The weather will go downhill on Friday.  A strong cold front, and a disturbance will move from Texas through Louisiana.  This will set off scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms over Baton Rouge.  Heavy rain is expected, and rainfall could total around 1 to 2 inches.

There is a small chance we could have some strong to severe thunderstorms as well.  The Storm Prediction Center (SPC) is monitoring this too.  Click here to see their thoughts.  If they occur, they will not be widespread.  The main threats would be damaging winds, hail and a few tornadoes.  This is due to the atmosphere being unstable and feeding off the warm and humid air mass ahead of the front.  High temperatures will be in the upper 60s before the front moves through by the afternoon.  Then the temperatures will fall through the 50s by the evening.

The front will be to the east of Louisiana on Friday night, and it will become significantly colder!  The skies will be partly cloudy with lows in the mid 30s.

An area of high pressure will build in on Saturday, and that is going to allow for MUCH COLDER weather to move into the Gulf Coast.  We will have sunny skies with highs struggling to get to 50 degrees.

It will be clear, cold and frosty on Saturday night with lows in the lower 30s.  Across the upper Florida Parishes and in Southern Mississippi the temperatures could be as cold as the upper 20s.

We will still have pleasant and cool weather on Sunday.  The forecast calls for sunny skies with high temperatures in the mid 50s.  It will become mostly clear on Sunday night with lows in the mid 30s.
